Today, the Leader of the Opposition Dr Bharrat Jagdeo MP, made a presentation of a quantity of rice to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to assist in the relief efforts currently ongoing in the flood-affected areas in Regions 7 and 8.
The Peoples Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) said it is committed to ensuring that the affected villages return to a life of normalcy and indicated its support to the CDC efforts in these regions.
During the hand-over of the rice, Dr Jagdeo committed that the Parliamentary Opposition will encourage the Government to seek additional budgetary support to effect the ongoing relief and recovery phases of this disaster.
In Region 8, in the North Pakaraimas, the hardest hit villages included Chenapau, Kaibarupai, Waipa, Sand Hill, Kopinang, Itabac, Kanapang and Cheung Mouth. In Region 7, Kako, Quebanang, Jawalla, and Kamarang/Warawatta were most affected.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI Ltd) yesterday donated a number of items towards the flood affected residents at the CDC’s office in Thomas Lands.
Handing over the donation on behalf of the Bank was Senior Manager, Administration, Sean Noel, who noted that the Bank took cognisance of the flood affected residents of the Regions and thought it best to lend a helping hand in this situation. In so doing, he said that GBTI has always been an entity that lends a helping hand in these times when it is most needed.
Also representing the Bank were Senior Manager, Finance, Shawn Gurcharran and Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Pamela Binda.
