[www.inewsguyana.com] – A number of agencies today (Thursday, February 13) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the use of the Guyana Defence Force Floating Patrol Base at the Pomeroon River.
These agencies include the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Revenue Authority, Guyana Energy Agency and the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit – all of which are members of the Task Force on fuel smuggling and contraband.
Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee, who witnessed the signing, told reporters that the Police Force will soon be launching its floating base in a similar location.
Rohee emphasised that much has been achieved since the task force was established, as this MOU will now ensure that the agencies engage in joint operations under the command and control of the GDF.
The agencies also signed onto Standing Operating Procedures. In brief remarks, Deputy Chief of Staff, Colonel Khemraj Persaud lauded the initiative and committed that the GDF is “ready and willing” to support the vision of the MOU.
He noted that “inter agency coordination and cooperation is the way to respond to common threats.”
