A motorist was early Wednesday morning killed after the car he was driving reportedly lost control and slammed into a truck at Supply Village, East Bank Demerara. The accident occurred at about 5:30hrs.

The dead man has been identified as Quilton Greene, 45, of La Penitence, Georgetown.

According to information received, the car was heading in the direction of Georgetown when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the truck which was heading in the opposition direction at the time.

From reports received, the now dead man had to be pulled from the wreckage and was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motor lorry, Shivlochand, said he was heading to the ‘sand pit’ at Soesdyke and from afar he saw the motorcar ‘swaying’ on the roadway. He claimed that, upon seeing this, he stopped the truck but the car came straight at him.

From all indication, he said the driver might have fallen asleep when the accident occurred. Shivlochand related that after the accident, he rushed out of the truck to check on the driver but saw him pinned in the vehicle.

With the assistance of public spirited citizens, the door of the wrecked car was removed in order to get out the injured man. As Greene was pulled, he was motionless thus leaving those around to believe he was already dead.

Moments after the Police arrived on the scene, placed Greene in the vehicle and took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motor lorry was detained as investigations continue.
