Shanna Wilson of Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is grateful for the return of her special needs son, N’tem Pickering, 28. Wilson said that her first-born was picked up by ranks of the Tuschen Police Outpost on Thursday who informed her Pickering was with them.
Wilson said her son could not fully explain how he ended up so far from home but alleged that “people at a dam in Den Amstel” dealt him several blows “with a hose and a wood” which caused him to run away. She surmised these individuals may have assumed he was a thief.
Following reports in the media and online, the man’s mother said several persons contacted her, including one man who called her on Wednesday stating that he had seen Pickering wandering about in Den Amstel that evening.
She also noted that social activist Mark Benschop offered assistance to find her son.
Wilson stated: “Mr Benschop called me cause he said he saw it on INews and offered a helping hand to go and look for him.” She was taken to Brickdam Police Station where ranks transported her to Tuschen to be reunited with her son.
“I was so happy because they said come pick up your son and I rushed out without eating anything,” stressed the elated mother.
On Tuesday, Wilson had told INews that she last saw her son at 07:00h on Sunday before she left for work. She had noted that the man intended to visit his grandmother after attending church but had never showed up.
The missing man, unable to work due to physical difficulties, attends services at Light Chapel Church in La Penitence and would usually return home around 20:00h. The mother emphasised that with the help of the media and the internet, her son was found. (Shemuel Fanfair)
