A Leguan woman was placed on $35,000 bail after she appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged for narcotics possession.
Ashmini Persaud, 20, a mother of two, of Doorn Haag, Leguan, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) stood before the court to answer to the charge which alleged that on February 21, a Police search was conducted at her residence and it was discovered that she had cultivated the prohibited plant.
It was also alleged that on the same day and location, Persaud had in her possession 2 grams of cannabis. She pleaded not guilty to both charges and her attorney requested the court to be lenient with his client, while relating her severe medical condition. It was because of this allegation, he noted, that the fate of her two young ones remains in question and further made an application for reasonable bail.
Persaud was placed on $35,000 bail and the matter was transferred to the Leguan Magistrate’s Court for March 24.
