The mother of the juvenile who was nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) for concealing cocaine inside of his suitcase handle is expected to be charged today along with a male accomplice.
Reports are that the 15-year-old was apprehended at the CJIA moments before he was about to board a flight destined for the John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport in New York on Saturday afternoon.
Upon inspection of the teen’s suitcase it was discovered that one kilogram (kg) of cocaine had been stashed away inside of his suitcase handle.
A number of persons were taken into police custody since Saturday evening and grilled by the relevant authorities.
It is alleged that while being questioned the mother of the juvenile admitted that it was she who had hidden the illegal substance inside of her child’s luggage.
Other members of the family were also implicated but they denied any involvement in the matter.
One man was also apprehended after it was alleged that he was the individual who supplied the substance to be concealed in the youth’s suitcase handle.
INews understands that the case file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution’s office for advice on the way forward. The case file was returned to investigators late yesterday with instructions to proceed in charging both the mother and the man.
The duo is expected to appear in Court sometime today.
