The mother of an 18-year-old boy who was involved in a shootout with Police ranks at the Timehri bus park yesterday, has turned him over to the police.
During the afternoon hours of yesterday, police ranks noticed the teen, who was in the company of another man, behaving suspiciously. Upon approaching the suspects, they fled the scene.
Reports indicate that the teen opened fire on the Police at the Timehri bus park, and it was when an Officer identified as “George” returned fire, that a mother of three was accidentally shot to the back.
According to information reaching INews this morning, the teen is contending that he never opened fire on the Police and he was never in possession of a gun.

The woman who was shot accidentally has been identified as 54-year-old Jean Rodriguez. At the time, Rodriguez, her husband Anthony Persaud and three children, all of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, were on their way to a ‘wake house’  in Grove on the East Bank of Demerara, when the tragedy struck.

It is alleged that at approximately 17:00hrs yesterday afternoon, the Police Officer identified only as ‘George’ gave chase to the suspected teen bandit.

According the reports, the Police Officer has resorted to taking the spotlight off of himself by claiming that it was the bandit who shot the woman and not himself. However, the family of the woman are contending that it was George who shot Rodriguez.

An investigation has been launched into the matter. (Ramona Luthi)
