[www.inewsguyana.com] – A mother of three is alleging brutality at the hands of the police and her husband. Twenty-seven year-old Odessa Seenanan speaking to the media today (June, 22) said her husband is bribing several officers at the Diamond Police Station.
She is alleging that four policemen attached to the Diamond/Grove Police Station assaulted and brutalised her on Tuesday last. She was subsequently placed in the East La Penitence Police Station lockups for three days before being slapped with seven charges. She appeared at the Providence Court, and was placed on $40,000 bail.
She faced three charges for assaulting male ranks, one charge for disorderly behaviour, one for indecent language, one for inflicting grievous bodily harm, and one for resisting arrest.
The woman is married to Harvey Seenanan for over three years and has suffered abuse at his hands for more than four years. She said at one point the man took her to the sea wall at Craig, East Bank Demerara, where he threatened to kill her.
Following this incident, she decided to tell the media her story. However, this further angered the man, who threw her and the kids out of the house.
Eventually, a restraining order was placed against him, and he was ordered by a Magistrate to leave the house. However, this did not deter the man from making threats to the woman and her children.
Feeling afraid, the woman left her Diamond home and relocated to Berbice. Upon returning she found that her husband had moved into the house with another a family.
The woman explained that the family living in her house was confronted and husband appeared with four police officers, who physically assaulted her.
The woman is alleging that on Tuesday last, the police officers beat and dragged her, before taking her to the Police Station. The woman was badly injured and thrown in the lock ups at La Penitance for three days, after which she was taken to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where she was charged.
The woman is crying out for justice and claims that her husband feels he is untouchable because he has money. The man is a spare parts dealer.
The officers are who harassed the woman are only known to her as Guru and Seeram.
