Sady Grant of National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on February 28 at National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, she unlawfully assaulted Candace Griffith, causing her actual bodily harm.
The Court heard that the duo live at the same address but in different apartment and on the day in question, Griffith was standing in front of her door speaking to her children when the defendant told her she was blocking the gate.
According to the Prosecution, Grant asked Griffith to let her pass but she ignored her and continued the conversation with her children. The Court heard that Grant then hit the victim with her shoulder and picked up a plastic pipe and dealt Griffith several lashes about her body, resulting in injuries.
Grant also scratched the woman on her face. Magistrate Bess, in passing sentence, noted that the penalty attracts a maximum of 18 months in prison and asked Grant if she wanted to be imprisoned for that time; Grant shockingly remarked, “Honestly, I don’t have a problem.”
