[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) says more than twelve communities on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) are experiencing technical difficulties relating to the supply of potable water.
According to a GWI statement, the company has been having problems emanating from the Covent Garden Water Treatment Plant, which has affected the supply of water since last week.
“These difficulties commenced early last week and affected several communities on the East Bank. Communities experiencing the service disruption have been notified by the company via local radio and television advisories,” the release stated.
It was noted that the affected areas include; Bagotstown, Nandy Park, Republic Park, Herstelling, Sections of Great Diamond, Little Diamond, Prospect, Covent Garden, Farm, Providence, Peter’s Hall, and Eccles (Old Road).
It was also stated that neighbouring communities may also experience reductions in levels of service.
“GWI Technical Services teams have been working extended hours to restore normal service. The company is currently executing a plan to divert water from the Providence distribution system in order to provide service to affected areas.”
This plan, according to GWI, will not affect customers currently served by the Providence facility.
