A 23-year-old Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), resident was during the wee hours of this morning (Wednesday) killed following an accident on the Zorg public road in Essequibo.
Dead is Shankar Ram. He was an employee of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA).
Based on police information, the accident occurred at about 00:15h. Ram was reportedly driving the Agency’s motor vehicle, PJJ1069, and allegedly speeding when he collided into a utility pole on the public road.
He was reportedly thrown from the motorcar, and landed some distance away.
This publication was informed that a female passenger, who has since been identified as Donitta Ramlackhan, another GEA employee of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was in the front seat of the vehicle and received injuries as well.
A short while later, a police patrol which was traversing the area found the duo and rushed them to the Suddie Public Hospital where Ram was pronounced dead on arrival.
The woman, who was unconscious, was admitted in a critical state.
However, according to the police in a subsequent release, the female occupant has regained consciousness and is reportedly in a stable condition at the said hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
