[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Mocha woman is now widowed after bandits shot her husband in the head in the wee hours of Sunday morning (March 08) at Mocha East Bank Demerara.
According to a police statement, 35-year-old Jermain Giles of Barnwell North, Mocha, was awakened by a strange noise at his door around 01:00hrs on Sunday morning.
He opened a window to see what had caused the noise and was met with a bullet to his head. Police say that two men proceeded to enter the house through the open window and held up Giles’ reputed wife Joylyn Oliver.
The bandits searched the home and took away a cell phone and escaped. Giles was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
iNews understands that Giles is a mason while his wife works as a cook in the interior. Persons in the area told iNews that one of the masked bandits entered the house through the window and proceeded to open the back door allowing the other bandit entry into the home.
They left the injured man on the ground while they questioned the woman about the whereabouts of her gold and cash to which she responded she had nothing.
Her screams then alerted the neighbours and the men fled the area. The woman went to a nearby house and sought refuge.
When iNews visited the home where the shooting took place, the house was locked. The houses which are located along the stretch of a mud dam have been without electricity for several years now. [Leroy Smith]
