The storm is dying down. As Miss America2014 Nina Davuluri settles into her new-found fame and her new role as the USA’s ambassador for beauty, the rancour on Twitter is dying down.
USA’s first Indian-origin Miss America not only won the title to create history, but is also now winning the war raging on Twitter between racists and well, everyone else.
Some big-hitters from the showbiz, political and pretty much every arena both in the US and from across the world have come out swinging for the fences in defence of Nina Davuluri.
While most of the tweets about the 24-year-old Miss New York being the first contestant of Indian heritage to become Miss America (with her talent routine being a Bollywood fusion dance), are too racist to re-print.
Suffice it to say ‘terrorist’, ‘Miss 7/11’ and other such disgusting comments were Tweeted in the wake of her win.
After the initial outburst on Twitter in support of Nina, here now are some of the other Tweets that applaud her victory. From Tyra Banks to Amitabh Bachchan, these users have millions of followers and are ensuring the Twitter-sphere stays anti-racist.
