[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 37 – year – old mini bus driver and father of one has reportedly committed suicide on the Essequibo Coast. According to reports, Devanand Satytoo of Affiance Village, drank a quantity of poisonous substance on Tuesday, April 21 after experiencing domestic problems with his wife. He was rushed to the Suddie hospital and admitted but died several hours later.
The death of the man has plunged the community of Affiance, his family and friends in shock and sadness.
Meanwhile, reports also indicated that a 17 – year – old young man is admitted to the Suddie hospital after ingesting a quantity of gramoxone poison. iNews understands that the teenager of Suddie Housing Scheme drank the poison after experiencing problems with his family.
Over the past weeks, several persons including teenagers have attempted suicide by ingesting poison. Some have died while others have been hospitalized.
Calls have mounted for the authorities to clamp down on the selling of poisonous drugs to young people. Residents are also calling for systems to be put in place for rice farmers to store poisonous drugs in secure places away from their homes and children.
