Minibus conductor jailed for stabbing man with scissors

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A minibus conductor was sentenced to four months imprisonment on Thursday, February 19 by City Magistrate Annette Singh for stabbing a man with a scissors.

Twenty – four – year old Oliver Burnijan of Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on February 05 at Croal Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Quacy Sealey.

The Court heard that Burnijan and another person had an argument when Sealey intervened and a fight erupted. Burnijan pulled out a scissors and dealt Sealey several stabs to his body.

The injured man was taken to the Woodlands Hospital. The conductor told the Court that Sealey instigated the argument by prompting the other man to hit him [Burnijan] with a Guinness bottle.

The defendant said that Sealey “chucked” him and he retaliated with the scissors after Sealey reached for the Guinness bottle. They were both bonded to keep the peace for one year.
