[www.inewsguyana.com] – A miner who was found with a loaded gun in his crotch was remanded to prison on Thursday, December 17, 2015 by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he appeared before her charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Denesh Dharamdeo of Lot 1350 Providence Scheme, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the offense, which alleged that on December 16 at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River, he had in his possession one 9mm pistol without being a holder of a firearm license.
He was also slapped with another charge which read that on the same occasion, he was found to be in possession of seven live rounds of matching ammunition when he is not a licensed firearm holder.
Police Prosecutor, Kerry Bostwick told the court that on the day in question, police on patrol duty saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner. They then conducted a search on his person and the gun was found in his pants crotch.
The Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offense and the fact that no special reason was presented for bail. The accused was refused bail and remanded to prison. The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s court for January 07, 2016.
