A 24-year-old miner was remanded to prison on a narcotics possession charge when he appeared at the Bartica Magistrates Court.
Kester Skeete of Buxton, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison until August 2 2018.
Based on information received, earlier this week, ranks attached to the Bartica Police Station, acting on information, conducted a search on an inbound passenger’s boat from Parika.
In the back seat, a case of Fruta Juice was found. However, further checks revealed that the cans contained marijuana amounting to 788.5grams.
The boat sailor who was identified as Bartica resident identified Skeete as the owner of the items. However, during a confrontation, the accused denied this.
As such, the duo was taken into custody and legal advice was sought.
To this end, it was advised that Skeete alone be charged, and the boat sailor released pending further investigations.
The accused was remanded to prison until August 2, 2018.
