[www.inewsguyana.com] – A miner charged with wounding and simple larceny was granted $225,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Ruel Chapman of 2 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offences, which alleged that on May 11 at Georgetown, he stole one radio set valued $160,000, property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
It is also alleged on March 17 at Station Street, Kitty, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Caleb Caesar.
Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield told the Court that on the day in question, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were in Georgetown to make an arrest, when they were confronted by four men and after a scuffle ensued, one of the ranks misplaced his radio set.
Chapman was located and took the Police to a drain next to El Latino Bar where the stolen article was found.
As it relates to the wounding charge, the Prosecutor said the victim was walking along Station Street when the defendant chopped him to his abdomen and neck. Chapman fled the scene and the matter was reported.
Bail in the sum of $150,000 was granted for the larceny charge and $75,000 bail for the wounding offence. He will make his next Court appearance on June 2.
