handcuffs[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 22-year-old miner was yesterday (January 08) remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman on a series of armed robbery charges.

Howard Rambarose of Lot 6 Meadow Bank, Greater Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

Particulars of the first charge detailed that on October 31, 2014 at Eight Street, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara while being in the company of another and armed with a gun, Rambarose robbed Anasa Charles of an Alcatel cellular phone valued at $10,000.

It is also alleged that on the same day, also at Eight Street, while being armed with a gun he robbed Soma Persaud of $500,000 cash and Merisatta Singh of $40,000.

Rambarose’s lawyer, Dexter Todd said that he is currently facing charges in Court Five of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He said as it relates to this matter, no identification parade was done and the police failed to conduct a thorough investigation.

Though no facts were read in Court, Police Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth asked for Rambarose to be remanded. He objected to bail due to the serious nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence as well as the penalty of the crime.

He said that Rambarose confessed to the crime and his fingerprints were found at the scene. Furthering his objection, Ricknauth said that Ridley is a possible flight risk. Bail was refused and the case is set to be called again on January 23.
