Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon today announced that cabinet gave its no objection to the award of a contract totaling $20.1M for the purchase of arms and ammunition for the Guyana Police Force.
Dr. Luncheon announced that US$762,600 was approved for the procurement of patrol boats, while US$490,830 was approved for the procurement of arms for the Guyana Defence Force.
Additionally, US$295,640 will be spent on the supply of ammunition for military use while £560,920 will be used to procure military apparel.
According to the Cabinet Secretary, a total of $15M was also approved for the purchase of motor cycles for the Police Force.
Meanwhile, Dr. Luncheon also revealed that Brigadier Mark Phillips will be confirmed as the new Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force on Monday September 16 by President Donald Ramotar. Brigadier Phillips will take over from the current Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Gary Best.
