The annual feature for local football teams, the Mayor’s Cup which was scheduled to kick-off today at the Victoria Ground, was pushed to Thursday instead because of the inclement weather being experienced in and around Georgetown.
The ground is currently waterlogged due to the heavy rainfall but the matches will set to run smoothly from Thursday once the weather is kind.
Thursday will see Golden Grove battling Grove Hi Tech of the East Bank of Demerara, while Ann’s Grove go up against fellow East Coast Demerara team Bakewell Buxton.
The teams are battling for the Mayor’s Cup and cash prizes, with the top four set to claim respective $700,000, $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000.
