Massy Stores today opened its first supermarket in Guyana. The supermarket which is located at New Providence just behind the National Stadium, is the 46th of the company’s retail locations in the Caribbean, and it now boasts of being Guyana’s largest supermarket.
At the opening ceremony today, Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin praised the opening of the supermarket and Massy’s continued investment and support for Guyana through its many businesses here.
Noting that the Massy Company has a workforce of 1300 persons in Guyana, Gaskin said the company already contributes handsomely to the local economy. “This investment demonstrates that Guyana is the place to make investments,” Gaskin said.
The Business minister noted that Guyana’s retail sector is becoming more and more competitive and shoppers have more options both in terms of stores and products.
According to the company, the 16,000 square feet of retail space located in Amazonia Mall offers the convenience of one-stop shopping and will include features such as high quality fresh produce, chilled and frozen meat, prepared foods and a wide variety of local and foreign foods and general merchandise items.
Additionally, the Massy Stores Supermarket will offer a number of convenient, value-added services including a deli, a bakery, butcher, fresh fish counters, an in-store pharmacy, ATM Machines, MoneyGram and SurePay points of service.
