[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 33 – year – old Mason of Lot 44 Bent Street Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on an armed robbery charge.
Lansdale Browne pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 22 at Georgetown, being in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Rashid Ali of one gold chain valued $160,000.
According to his lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat, Browne said that a gun was not used during the commission of the crime. The Prosecution told the Court that both parties are known to each other and on the day in question at around 08:30 hrs, Ali was walking along Stabroek Market Bazaar, when Browne and another man snatched the chain from his neck.
The Court heard that the chain broke and fell to the ground and after Ali picked up same, Browne hit him with a piece of wood.
Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, successfully opposed bail on the seriousness, prevalence and the penalty attached to the offence. He was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Annette Singh for April 7.
