[www.inewsguyana.com] – Manchester were crowned as inaugural champs of the Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Berbice leg after sudden death kicks decided the encounter in the wee hours of Monday morning at the New Amsterdam Stelling.
While no goals were scored in regulation time and extra period, Manchester and Unruly Gang taunted the large crowd in attendance with near misses that either rocked the uprights or cross bar of the small goal or marginally missed the bars of the goal.
Further, both teams taunted the crowd even more with near misses in the penalty shootout as both teams surprisingly failed to score.
However, Manchester held their composure to calmly put away their first attempt in the sudden death round to win the first place prize of $300,000.
Both teams will now represent Berbice in the National tournament set for May. Meanwhile, in the third place playoff, New Amsterdam Kings prevailed over East Bank Gunners 1-nil as Stephen Boucher scored the lone goal of the game.
The tournament will now switch to the mining town of Linden for the final regional leg before the National championships begins.
