Minister of Agriculture Dr. Leslie Ramsammy said the blame for the poor performances of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco) should not be placed squarely on the shoulders of management.
As a matter of fact, Minister Ramsammy stated that he still has some confidence in the management team of Guysuco.
According to the Agriculture Minister, given the poor performance of Guysuco, proper strategies must not be put in place, but in the meantime in a bid to fix the corporation’s problem they must look for comprehensive answers and not short term ones.
Dr. Ramsammy revealed that the Corporation will not achieve its annual target of 237,000 tonnes of sugar this year. He pointed out that the first crop was affected by rain, however he is hoping that the weather will improve before the second crop gets into full swing. [Akash Ramlackhan]
