[www.inewsguyana.com] – A man accused of shooting and killing a suspected bandit was charged with the offence of murder before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday, May 19.
Lawrence Wayne [no address given] was not required to plea to the capital offence, which alleged that between August 23 and 24, 2014, in Alberttown, Georgetown, he murdered Dexter Lindo.
Wayne allegedly pumped three bullets into the body of Lindo, of Shell Road, Kitty. Police in a statement had noted that two men armed with handguns had entered the Wayne Beverage Paradise stall at Merriman’s Mall, Bourda and upon seeing them, the female owner ran and raised an alarm. A licensed firearm holder responded and trailed the suspected getaway car of the alleged bandits.
The owner of the firearm reportedly caught up with the car at Light and Fifth Streets, Alberttown, and confronted Lindo, who had exited the vehicle and entered a shop.
During the confrontation, the 26-year-old drew a firearm but was shot by the licensed firearm holder, according to the police.
He fled on foot, allegedly leaving an unlicensed .32 Beretta Pistol with four rounds behind and Lindo later succumbed to his injuries. The matter was put off to June 5 for report and fixtures.
