Berbice Police on Sunday morning discovered the badly decomposed body of 47-year-old Goldburn December hanging from a tree in the Foreshore area of East Berbice (Region Six).
“B” Division Commander, Ian Amsterdam, told this publication that ranks received information, at about 07:30hrs, that a body was seen hanging on a tree at the location, and police responded.
The Commander explained that December’s deteriorated body was positively identified by his son, who recognised a scar on his father’s right leg.
Almost one month after allegedly killing his ex-wife Mintie Karamchand at Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice, police have finally been able to determine the fate of Goldburn December.
December’s remains are presently at the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
On June 21 2017, 40-year-old Mintie Karamchand of Lot 19 Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice was viciously hacked to death by her estranged husband, Goldburn December, at her home and in the presence of one of her five children.
Reports were that the two had separated eight years ago, after Mintie had endured an abusive 20-year relationship, and December had migrated to Suriname. However, he was deported in May, and returned to Mintie at Sheet Anchor, Berbice.
While it is still unclear what had triggered the brutal attack on Mintie, it was reported that December had retaliated after his attempts to rekindle a relationship with his estranged wife had been rejected. Drucilla December, the couple’s 21-year-old child, recalled hearing her mother screaming and recounted that she had seen her father holding a chopper.
She said that, with her days-old baby in her arms, she had run between her parents in an attempt to protect her mother, but her father had told her to get out of the way. “He tell me to move, and I run outside and holla for help…,” Drucilla had related.
She allegedly witnessed her father pick up a bench and walk towards her mother, using the bench to hit the woman in her head numerous times.
One neighbour, Vanessa Artiga, related that after inflicting the injuries on Mintie, December had fled with a rope in his possession, going in the direction of the Canje River.
A taxi was called and the badly injured woman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
