Ganesh Sewcharran, who was wanted by local authorities for the attempted murder of his wife, has been arrested after he tried to flee the country for the USA.
“Pursuant to an ongoing investigation of attempted murder committed on Sandramma Raju by Ganesh Sewcharran, the suspect was arrested earlier today (September 15th, 2021) and placed in police custody after he was denied entry into the USA,” Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum revealed in a statement today.
He said investigators received information that Sewcharran managed to board a flight to the USA at 17:26hrs on Tuesday.
As a consequence, the Police contacted law enforcement officials in the USA and informed them that the suspect is a wanted man.
Hence, upon his arrival in the USA, the suspect was denied entry and sent back on a flight to Guyana which arrived at 06:54hrs this morning.
The suspect was then promptly arrested by local investigators and placed in custody.
Reports are that on Sunday night, the man and his wife were having an argument during which she threw kerosene on her body.
It is further alleged that Sewcharran took a lighter and set her dress on fire.
The woman dropped to the ground and began rolling around to extinguish the fire, however, she still sustained burns about her body.
She was rushed to Port Mourant Public Hospital and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she was admitted as a patient in a critical condition.
