Man remanded for robbery at Electronic Store

Twenty – nine – year old Dwayne Chance of Russel Street Charlestown, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry and pleaded not guilty to three counts of robbery underarms.

It is alleged that on September 04 at Regent and Wellington Street Georgetown, he in the company of others and armed with a knife attacked and robbed three employees of Isaac’s Electronics store located on the third floor of the Regent Multi Complex.

The court was told that Chance and his accomplices stole several articles along with cash totaling approximately $2M. The prosecution’s case is that on the day in question at about 09:15h, the accused along with his accomplice entered the store and spoke with one of the employee; Kareem Maxwell and requested assistance to have his phone repaired.

As Maxwell was about to do so, the accused pulled out a knife and placed it to Maxwell’s neck while his accomplice tied the hands of another employee. According to the allegations, the accused and his accomplice then went into the store where they attacked a third employee and demanded cash and other items.

The allegations further stated that on the same day at about 15:35h, the accused was identified by one of the employees at the Stabroek square after which he attempted to escape. However, the employee gave chase and when the accused attempted to pull “something” out of his pants waist, the employee shot him in the back. Chance was remanded until September 30. [Royan Abrams]
