[www.inewsguyana.com] – A miner of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown accused throwing acid on his ex-lover was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Wednesday, May 14.
Jermaine King pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on November 16, 2013 at Durban Street, Lodge, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Anchinalu Cannin, with attempt to commit murder.
Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield told the Court that on the day in question, the accused visited the Virtual Complainant (VC) and she followed him to his car. Subsequently, he removed a container from his car and allegedly doused the acid on her and fled the scene.
The Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and that the accused has been evading the police.
He also stated that the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) Chambers for advised and the case was put off to May 28.
