[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 48-year-old self employed man pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of sneakers and bicycle before Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Brian Singh of Sheriff Street, Georgetown, was fined $35,000 on two counts of simple larceny charges. Particulars of the first charge stated that on July 3 at Sherriff Street, Georgetown, he stole one pedal cycle from Fazal Shaw, valued $5,000.
The other offence stated that on July 17 also at Sherriff Street, he stole one pair of boots valued $25,000, property of Fidel Singh.
According to the Prosecution facts, the defendant and Fidel Singh are brothers residing at the same address. On that day, he was seen by their mother, Meena Singh, stealing the boots.
As it relates to the pedal cycle, the Court heard that the victim left it in front of a restaurant and proceeded to conduct business, when he observed Singh escaping with the bicycle.
For the boots, he was fined $10,000 with an alternative of three weeks imprisonment and for the bicycle he was fined $25,000 with a default of a four week jail term, which will run concurrently.
