A farmer was on Saturday killed by his son-in-law after the elderly man intervened in a fight between him and his wife at Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD).
The dead man has been identified as 67-year-old Dennis Williams of Canal Bank, Port Kaituma, NWD.
Based on reports received, at about 03:00h on Saturday morning, the 36-year-old suspect and two of friends were consuming alcohol outside of his home and as the time swiftly went by, he he allowed the two friends to stay over.
However, his wife and daughter later ventured out into the yard to to use the washroom and it was then the suspect accused the woman of leaving the house to see his friends. As such, he began to beat the woman and she started to scream.
Upon hearing the commotion, her father who resides in close proximity reportedly crossed the river with his boat and stopped the man from beating his daughter. Nevertheless, to avoid a re occurrence, Williams reportedly stayed at the house with his daughter until the break of day.
About 06:30h, Williams was returning home in his boat and shortly after the suspect jumped into a boat powered by an outboard engine and in a fir of rage, he drove over the elderly man. Williams fell into the water and disappeared.
A search was launched and the now dead man’s lifeless body was pulled from the river. He sustained severe injuries to his head. He was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspect was arrested and is expected to be charged with murder.
