[www.inewsguyana.com] – A sanitation officer was on Friday, December 04 fined $20,000 for inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Shameer Khan, 49, of 111 Miles Mahdia appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm to Anthony Osbourne on December 01.
He pleaded guilty to the offense, stating that it was in self-defence. According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the two individuals are known to each other and on the day in question, they were both washing vehicles at the Mahdia Landing.
Prosecutor Jones related that a misunderstanding occurred during which the defendant pulled out a cutlass and dealt the complainant chops to his arm. The complainant was rushed to the hospital and subsequently airlifted to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
Khan in his explanation to the Magistrate said that the complainant is a homosexual, who usually makes sexual advances to him. He claimed that he usually reports the matter to the Police but they ignore him and laugh at him.
He said on the day in question, they were both cleaning minibuses when the complainant shoved him into a bus and sexually assaulted him. He said the man said, “You is me girlfriend now, I gon mind yuh”, and proceeded to kiss him about his neck while trying to remove his trousers.
He said at that point he felt the cutlass at his hand reach and used it to fight his assailant off. The Magistrate instituted a fine of $20,000 or a default of four weeks in prison.
