Derrick Persaud was earlier today (Friday), fined $20,000 by Magistrate Leron Daly after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with simple larceny.
Persaud confessed to the allegation and told the Court that on the day in question, he had gotten out of a city hospital where he was a patient for a period of time and needed the deodorant.
It was alleged that on July 5, he stole one Gillette deodorant valued $1,280 property of Bounty Supermarket.
According to the police prosecution, the man is a known character to the police and he was arraigned on previous occasions for similar charges.
Persaud was fined $20,000 or three months imprisonment. The matter was adjourned until July 27.
