[www.inewsguyana.com] – The East Coast Demerara village of Victoria was plunged into sate of mourning as one villager was killed and several others injured after a car and minibus from the said village collided head on this afternoon [Saturday, July 05] on the Cove and John Public road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is 33 – year – old Sabastian Frank of 108 Middle Walk Victoria while his older brother Selwyn is said to be in a critical condition.
iNews was informed that the accident which occurred shortly after 13:00 hours involved a busload of passengers from Victoria and the two brothers who were in a car.
Eyewitnesses said that Sabastian, who was driving the car attempted to overtake a number of vehicles, when he ended up in the path of the oncoming minibus.
According to eyewitnesses, as the bus slowed to have the car make its way back into its lane, other vehicles which he was attempting to overtake refused to allow him back into his lane causing, him crash into the bus head on.
Speaking with the mother of the brothers at her home this afternoon, Debra Wilson said that she was at home when she got the news.
The woman related that when she saw her son at the hospital, he could not speak because of chest pains. He was immediately sent to ICU.
Several persons from the community gathered to offer their condolences and found out about the state of their loved one and the brothers at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The surviving brother only arrived in the country last week From the United Stated and was returning to Victoria after leaving home to clear a barrel at a city wharf.
The dead man leaves to mourn his wife and four children while the hospitalised man has two children.
