A 32-year-old man is clinging to life in the Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck on Tuesday evening along the Yarrowkabra Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway in a hit-and-run accident.
He was later identified as Yogeshwar Itwaroo, 32, of Lot 93 Campbell Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown.
Based on reports received, about 19:45h, Itwaroo was walking along the roadway when a motor vehicle struck him down and left the scene.
The injured man was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Diamond hospital, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
Police have since retrieved a portion of the number plate of the vehicle that carries the digits “703”. Police are making enquiries to ascertain the registration number of the vehicle, which can ultimately lead to the arrest of the driver.
