[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty-year-old Jermaine Maynard, who is accused of shooting to death his ex- girlfriend, Carlissa Matthews was today committed to stand trial at the High Court for the offence committed.
The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) commenced on February 10 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and he was represented by Attorney – at – law George Thomas.
Approximately twelve witnesses testified in the PI which was conducted by Police Prosector, Bharat Mangru. Based on the evidence, a Prima facie case has been established against Maynard, as there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.
It is alleged that between Tuesday, December 31, 2013 and Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Croal Street, Georgetown, he murdered the 20-year-old.
The Court heard that the victim and the accused were in a relationship, which ended a few months prior to the incident.
The murder took took place at around 23:50hrs, when the woman was standing in the vicinity of KFC in the Stabroek area. She was approached by Maynard, who drew a gun and shot her to the head. She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where she succumbed to her injuries.
