[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 44-year-old Porter of East Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, facing two counts of armed robbery was yesterday (Friday, June 27) refused bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Paul Calendar was not required to plead to the charges, one of which claimed that on June 26 at Atlantic Chinese Restaurant, Sheriff Street, Georgetown, being in company of another armed with a gun he robbed Ronald Murlie of US $60, documents and $63,000 cash – Guyana currency.
Particulars of the other offence alleged that on the same day at the said restaurant he robbed Dhanikar Singh of one blackberry cellular phone valued $60,000, US $43 and $83,000 cash – Guyana currency.
Police Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth said on the day in question both virtual complainants were at a restaurant. The accused along with another armed male held the victims at gun point and relieved them of the articles mentioned.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-a-Fat, who told the Court that his client was wrongly identified. However, the Prosecutor denied this allegation.
The father of six was remanded to prison and the matter stands adjourned to July 9.
