Jermaine Rowe, a 39-year-old resident of Laing Avenue, Georgetown was today remanded to prison on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
He appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan in court one of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge which read that on January 19, 2016 at Yarrow Dam, West Ruimveldt in Georgetown, he was found to be in possession of 606 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Police said that on the day in question, an investigation was conducted by its ranks who were acting on information received. The Police officers went to Yarrow Dam where the defendant was staying and conducted a search on the premises.
A multi-coloured haversack was recovered from the living room of the premises and before officers could search the bag, the accused admitted that he was in possession of cannabis (ganja).
He was subsequently arrested and charged for the offense. Magistrate McLennan remand the defendant to prison and he is expected to return to court on February 19, 2016.
