A 61-year-old man was on Thursday evening fatally beaten by his younger brother at Bella Dam, West Bank Demerara (WBD) during a row over food.
The dead man has been identified as Nazir Khan of Lot 37 Bella Dam, West Bank Demerara.
According to information received, at about 18:30h, the accused, an employee of Puran’s Disposal Service sent Khan to purchase a box of food for him at a nearby shop.
However, INews understands that after some time had elapsed, the man did not return with the food and as such, the suspect went in search of him in the company of a friend.
Upon locating Khan, he admitted that he had eaten the food since he was hungry. The suspect became enraged, and he along with his friend, began to beat the man.
In a bid to escape, Khan reportedly ran into a neighbour’s yard but he was chased out based on the fact that the neighbor did not want to interfere in the family affair.
The pensioner however, sought refuge at the home of 74-year-old man. He reportedly went to take a nap and after two hours, the elderly man went to check only to find him in a motionless state.
As such, an ambulance was summoned and Khan was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The dead man’s brother was arrested and is assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, Police are on the hunt for the friend who assisted the suspect in the fatal beating.
