[www.inewsguyana.com] – Member of the Regional Association of Loggers, Devon Robeiro, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
He pleaded not guilty to three charges, two of which alleged that on June 23 in the Upper Demerara River, he had in possession one .32 pistol and one .38 revolver, without a firearm licensed.
It is also alleged that on the same day, he also had his possession nine live .32 ammunition. The Court heard that Police received information and went to the home of the defendant, where a search was conducted when they found the illegal items.
The Court heard that the accused accepted ownership of the firearms and ammunition under caution, but Robeiro’s lawyer said that his client only did so after the police threatened to arrest his mother, who had fainted at the time.
He added that his client does not have a criminal record and has cooperated with the police during investigations. He was refused bail and the matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for June 30.
