After weeks of delays and professing his innocence, Kevin Alfred, on Tuesday morning admitted to killing 75-year-old Joyce Lewis at her North Ruimveldt, Georgetown home on March 26, 2014.
Alfred who appeared in the High court before Justice Navindra Singh pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
However, even though he plead guilty, the accused maintained in court that it was another man that killed the elderly remigrant on the day in question.
Justice Singh told Alfred that he showed no sign of remorse before sentencing him to 23 years in prison.
75-year-old Joyce Lewis was murdered on March 26, 2014, at her Lot 3630 Christiani Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown home.
The woman was reportedly strangled during an early morning robbery.
Her lifeless body was found in her home by Police and her sister, Veronica Deen.
Five months after she was killed, Alfred was arrested and charged with the murder.
He was committed to stand trial in the High Court on October 19, 2015.
The State’s case was presented by Prosecutors Tiffini Lyken, Abigail Gibbs and Narissa Leander.
