Police are now hunting a 35-year-old inmate, accused of rape, who managed to escape the Lusignan Prison sometime during Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
The wanted man has been identified as Delvon Blake whose last address was given as Kumuni Creek Demerara River, West Bank Demerara.
According to Prison Director, Gladwin Samuels, the man was discovered missing on Wednesday morning after a verification exercise was conducted at the prison.
He had been admitted to prison on July 24, 2017.
Police PRO Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus in a subsequent release detailed that Blake was able to escape by using “ his bed sheet and wooden pallets to help himself over the fence on the north western side in full view of Police Ranks performing duties in the guard hut tower, overlooking the new holding facility at the Prison.”
Moreover, he said the inmate was able to escape even though the area is well illuminated.
The fugitive has a tear drop tattoo on the left side of his face.
Persons who may have information leading to the whereabouts of the wanted man are asked to contact the local authorities.
