A major fire at the Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited building was on Tuesday morning averted following quick action by a security officer attached to the facility.
This publication was reliably informed that at about 07:30h, an air conditioning thermostat, located on the third floor of the building at Lot 61-62 Avenue of the Republic Lacytown, Georgetown, overheated and smoke was seen emanating from it.
A security guard who was nearby, observed the small fire and used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the blaze.
The matter was reported to the Guyana Fire service who ascertained that no harm was done to the building.
