Shaffen Donette was remanded to prison when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The 35-year-old resident of Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.
The charge stated that on June 8, 2019 at Three Miles, Mahdia, she had 220 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that on the day in question, Donette was a passenger in a minibus when it was stopped and searched by Police.
Prosecutor Daniels further stated that upon searching Donette’s belongings, the ranks found seven transparent packages suspected to be cannabis hidden inside of a Kotex Panty liner box which she had in her handbag.
A closer inspection revealed a quantity of seeds, leaves and stem. Donette was told of the offence and arrested. She will make her next court appearance on July 15, 2019.
