[www.inewsguyana.com] – Tiffany Ward-Hodge, a 21-year-old Clerk formerly attached to Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court, was yesterday (January 09) ordered to post $140,000 bail on an embezzlement charge by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The 21-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between March 15 and June 28, 2014, while being employed as a Clerk at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court, she fraudulently embezzled $1,365,700, property of the State of Guyana.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharat Mangru presented no facts to the Court and had no objections to bail.
Attorney-at-Law Dexter Todd, who represented her, said that Ward-Hodge had been released on $20,000 station bail a year ago and has been making herself available to the police.
He said that she has already repaid the money and that she was not a flight risk. Bail was initially granted at $200,000 but following an application, it was reduced. The matter was transferred to the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrates’ Court and will be called on January 12.
