Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence, today installed nine members of the Local Board of Guardians appointed to review applications for Public Assistance in the upper and central Mazaruni areas, Region Seven, according to GINA.
According to GINA, the Minister told the members that Public Assistance is a temporary assistance in the form of cash that the Government grants to vulnerable persons to assist them in a difficult period. Hence, the State is depending on the Board members to objectively review the applications. She noted that Public Assistance is granted to persons with permanent disability on an annual basis. However, persons who received Public Assistance because of their dire economic situation are subjected to reviews every six months.
The Minister insisted that criteria for successful reviews must include; regular school attendance and vaccination for children receiving Public Assistance.
The Minister also noted that the board members are the Ministry’s ambassadors in the Region and urged that they execute their responsibilities with diligence.
“Let’s ensure we follow procedures,” she cautioned, adding that soon the Ministry will be moving to introduce conditional cash transfer for families that will seek to reduce poverty within the family by making an intervention that benefits the entire family.

Its called “welfare” in Canada “food stamps” in America and no matter how you put it lie about it say what you want these people to hear it becomes the norms.
Dont go telling people its temporary because its not. You will see those whom are getting now will be passed down to their children.
You dont have to take hard working citizens tax dollars to buy votes for they will vote for you no matter what. PNCites will vote PNC always no matter what. Thats the bottom line.They just could care less if if they starve sleep on the streets wear rags under PNC but will find their way to polling booth to vote PNC.
Welfare in Canada was created for a great reason but it then became the norm where the welfare passed down from generation to generation.
Its not a lavish life style but hey these people on welfare dont have to take shit from bosses supervisors dont have to plod through rain sleet snow to go to work.
And you know these welfare bums gets great medical care.
