[www.inewsguyana.com] The Linden Leg of the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Academy opened last weekend in fine style.
The event which held on Saturday (March 28) at the Wisburg Secondary School Ground saw a march pass of participating teams followed by remarks from Region 10 Chairman Sharma Solomon.
Organized by the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF), the event saw the main sponsors Bank of Nova Scotia and DDL (Pepsi) also on board to witness the event.
The Regional Chairman, Solomon said that his community is proud to be a part of the tournament, adding that they are keen on developing the talent in that part of the country.
He also lauded the Guyana Sport Development Foundation for ensuring that coaches and officials were properly educated before the commencement of the tournament.
Secretary of the GSDF, Victor Wright reminded that the purpose of the academy is about learning the game.
In the opening match, Mackenzie High School (MHS) Males defeated Harmony Secondary 2 nil as Leon Grenville in the 24th and Joao Dias 43 represented the scorers.
The second game, which was a female encounter, saw MHS complete the double by beating Harmony by the same as player of the match Niomi Alsopp netted a double in the 49th.
The competition continues this Friday with two more matches.
