A 31-year-old security guard attached to the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI)’s Lethem branch is now dead after he was stabbed in North Rupununi in the wee hours of this morning.
This is according to Police “F” Division Commander, Rabindranauth Budhram.
Based on reports received, the now dead man, Hemchand Persaud of Lethem, had been imbibing on Easter Monday with friends and family and was walking along the main access road in North Rupununi with two females at around 01:55hrs when the incident occurred.
INews understands Persaud was attacked and stabbed once to his abdomen by a lone perpetrator. The suspect then fled the scene using a motorcycle.
The injured man was taken to a medical facility where he later succumbed.
Investigations are continuing.
