The Lady Jags’ journey to the Olympics came to a screeching halt on Tuesday evening after Trinidad and Tobago emerged with a 5-1 win in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifier in Houston, Texas.
Kennya Cordner sent the twin-islanders into the lead as early as the seventh minute, and that goal opened the floodgates as T&T slammed in another three goals by the 25th minute.
Mariah Shade, Jenelle Cunningham and Ahkella Mollon were the other first half scorers for T&T, while debutant Bria Williams pulled one back for the Lady Jags just before the break.
Upon resumption, Cordner made it 5-1 for T&T, and although the Lady Jags made several attempts on goals, their efforts proved futile.
The Lady Jags also lost their first game against Canada 5-0, but rebounded to beat Guatemala 2-1. A draw against T&T would have secured the Lady Jags passage to the next round of the Olympic Qualifier.
